Understanding Eligibility Criteria
Most engineering colleges in India require candidates to have completed their Class 12 education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as core subjects. While some institutions have a minimum aggregate percentage requirement, many have relaxed this criterion, especially for candidates with strong performance in entrance exams.
For instance, the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, a pivotal entrance test for engineering aspirants, does not impose a minimum percentage in Class 12 for eligibility. However, candidates must have secured at least 75% marks in their Class 12 board exams or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards to be eligible for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). This criterion has been waived off for the year 2025, allowing students with marks between 70% and 90% to be considered for admission to IITs through JEE Advanced.
