About the Department (Mechanical Engineering)
Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering, BMSIT&M. The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2002-03. The Department offers a full-time UG programme in Mechanical Engineering with an annual intake of 60 students. The programme is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The UG programme is provisionally accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi, and also Permanently Affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.
The Post-Graduation in Machine Design was started during the academic year 2014-15 with an approved intake of 18 students. The Department is recognised as a Research Centre by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, where the number of research scholars registered stands at 27. Currently, the Department is headed by Dr. Madhu M.C.

BMSIT Admission Process & Eligibility Criteria

| Eligibility | Students must appear for the Karnataka UGCET entrance exam for admission to undergraduate engineering courses. |
| Reservation | 45% of the total intake is reserved for students appearing in Karnataka UGCET. |
| Merit-based Admission | Admission is based on merit; students must secure a good rank for seat allotment through counselling. |
| Admission through COMEDK UGET | |
| Eligibility | Students must appear for the COMEDK UGET entrance exam for admission to undergraduate engineering courses. |
| Reservation | 35% of the total intake is reserved for students appearing in COMEDK UGET. |
| Merit-based Admission | Admission is based on merit; students must secure a good rank for seat allotment through counselling. |
| Admission through Management Quota | |
| Eligibility | Students must have secured a minimum of 60% in class 12th for admission under management quota seats. |
| Reservation | 25% of the total intake is reserved under management quota seats. |
| Tuition Fees | Higher tuition fees are applicable for students joining through management quota. |
ACHIEVEMENTS: (Mechanical Engineering)
Dr K.M. Sathish Kumar, Dr. Jagadeesh Y.J., Prof Madhu M.C., and Prof S. Nithya Poornima, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, have received an APPRECIATION CERTIFICATE for outstanding contribution to the Institute by giving 100 % results during the academic period 2021-22.
Dr Ravichander K.R., Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, has submitted a Project Proposal titled ” Fabrication of an induction heat assisted portal biochar plant: design and development for sustainable agricultural waste management,” submitted to KSCST FPP on 15th September 2022.
Prof. Madhu MC and Dr O. Gurumurthy attended the program at the Bureau of Indian Standards, Peenya, Bangalore, wherein they were included as resource persons for promoting standards in Karnataka, held on 23rd August 2022.
